What are the typical job descriptions?

  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA): CNA jobs are on the front lines of patient care. They assist seniors with everyday tasks such as bathing, feeding, dressing, serving meals and cleaning, among others. Certified Nursing Assistant jobs require a high school diploma and nursing assistant training that’s approved by your state’s nursing board. Individuals are also required to pass a CNA certification exam.
  • Live-In and Hourly Caregivers: Live-in caregivers reside in the patient’s home and provide around-the-clock care. On the other hand, hourly caregivers are paid by the hour. These elderly companion jobs provide the same services; they assist patients with meals, transportation, mobility and more. Specialized formal education is not needed, but most elder care jobs will require you to pass a background check, have a current driver’s license and a high school diploma.
  • Part-Time Caregiver: These caregivers work on a part-time basis and help with a range of daily tasks, including hygiene, cleaning, meal preparation, shopping and more. Senior care jobs will typically require you to have a valid driver’s license and senior caregiver experience, as well as pass a background check.
